‘Latte Liberals’: Al Sharpton Rips Democrats For Ignoring Voters’ Concerns With Crime

MSNBC host Al Sharpton lambasted “latte liberals” in the Democratic Party Wednesday for failing to properly understand voters’ concerns with crime.

“I think that what is being misread is that there is a misreading of wanting criminal justice reform, police reform and in wanting proper policing,” Sharpton told “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough. “And as crime’s in spike in some areas, even more policing, we just elected a black policeman, the mayor of New York, and he had overwhelming black support.”

“The latte liberals are talking to the guy that gives them the syrup in their latte and not talking to the people that they claim they speak for,” Sharpton said.

A Harvard/Harris poll released Oct. 17 for The Hill noted that 68% of respondents considered crime to be “very important.” Three-fifths of respondents to a September poll by Trafalgar said they felt less safe under President Joe Biden than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Crime in Philadelphia skyrocketed over the last two years, while murder on New York City’s subway system reaching a 25-year high. Democratic Mayor Eric Adams of New York City blamed repeat offenders for the increase and is seeking changes to New York’s bail reform law, which passed in 2019.

“Whenever the issue of crime comes up, as Jim said, sometimes Democratic candidates worry too much about what their base says, and you will have ‘woke’ people saying, oh, if you’re talking about crime, well, my gosh, you’re racist,” Scarborough said Wednesday. “Or there’s a racial component every time a politician talks about crime. Rev, you’ve been saying all along that’s not the case. You’ve been saying that when you go and talk to people, crime’s at the top of their list of things that they’re concerned about.”

Scarborough warned that Democrats could face defeat in the Nov. 8 midterm elections on Oct. 14 if they did not address crime and criticized left-wing prosecutors like Krasner Friday morning.
