The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for the entire Jersey Shore from Cape May to Sandy Hook until 4 pm on Friday. The warning comes as many beaches at the Jersey Shore that were replenished in the aftermath of Sandy exactly ten years ago have been battered and seriously eroded.

The main affected areas over the next 24 hours include Ocean, Atlantic, Cape May, Atlantic Coastal Cape May, Coastal Atlantic, Coastal Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington.

Forecasters are expecting up to one foot of inundation above the ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.

A small craft advisory has also been issued until 6 pm on Saturday with north winds up gusting as high as 30 knots and seas of 4 to 7 feet. These conditions will be hazardous to small personal watercraft.

“Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions,” the NWS warns.

The waring comes on the 10th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, which struck October 28, 2012.
