TRENTON, NJ – New Jerseyans struggling financially are about to get an eye-opening rude awakening this week when they start to go food shopping for their Thanksgiving dinner. According to a new report by Fox News, Thanksgiving food costs are skyrocketing after a large increase in 2021.

The cost of eggs are up 43% since last year’s Thanksgiving dinner. Butter is up 33%. Flour is up 25%. Coffee is up nearly 15%. Milk has increased by another 14.5%. Fruits and vegetables rose by 10%, and meat and fish continue to soar in price.

Finding savings during the Thanksgiving season is going to be difficult.

Worse, turkey is up 16% and potatoes are up 15%.

Last year, the U.S. Farm Bureau said Thanksgiving dinner prices between 2020 and 2021 rose 14%, on top of this year’s higher increases.

The American Farm Bureau believes turkey prices will continue to rise in the coming days.

“The centerpiece for Thanksgiving tables across the country will cost more than ever this holiday season,” the agency said. “The American Farm Bureau Federation announced Wednesday that “families can expect to pay record high prices at the grocery store for turkey” due to bird flu and inflation.”

Are you counting on your free fresh turkey at Shop-Rite in New Jersey? While the shopping threshold remains at $400, this year, the chain is only offering frozen turkeys in the promotion, so plan accordingly.
