Charlie Ayoub is a Powerball fan who plays the game two to three times a week. His loyalty and persistence paid off on Nov. 5, when the Montgomery County resident won $50,000 with a $2 quick-pick ticket.

A Silver Spring man won $50,000 in the big Powerball drawing last week on a $2 quic-pick ticket sold in Upper Marlboro.

“I have been playing both Powerball and Mega Millions for about 15 to 20 years. I like to play the games with the bigger prizes,” Charlie Ayoub said.

The Silver Spring man is a district manager whose job requires him to travel around the region. He estimated that he visits and plays at over 30 Lottery retailers throughout the state. The 58-year-old recently stopped by a local gas station to check his Powerball ticket and learned he won a third-tier prize in the Nov. 5 drawing.

“When I first scanned the ticket, it said $50,000. I didn’t believe it. I thought it was closer to $50,” he said.

As for his winnings, he said he is going to give some money to his church, pay off some bills and put the balance into his 18-year-old’s college fund.
