JERSEY CITY, NJ – Five suspects are being sought in a smash-and-grab robbery that left a local jewelry store owner with over $500,000 in merchandise taken. The brazen and violent robbery took place at around 4:38 pm at Sara Jewelry on Newark Avenue.

Police say the men gained entry by forcibly entering the business behind a customer who was buzzed in by employees. One of the suspects produced a gun and pushed the female business owner to the ground in front of her customers, including a 3-year-old child.

Police reported that five men, all wearing masks entered the business and started breaking display cases, filling their bags with stolen jewelry.

After the attack, the suspects fled the scene in two getaway vehicles parked outside the store.

In total, the owners estimate about $480,000 worth of jewelry and $20,000 from a store safe were stolen.

No arrests have been made.
