SILVER SPRING, MD – As a result of the third-tier Powerball win on Dec. 5, a Silver Spring man and his wife are now $50,000 richer.

When the Montgomery County resident discovered his lottery win using his mobile Lottery app, he was at home with his wife. He said his wife began to scream with excitement while he kept a cool head.

“My wife was a little more excited than me. I was in total shock and speechless,” he said.

He said he does not play as often as his wife, who purchases tickets several times a week. He plans to share the prize with her.   “I guess my money is really her money,” he said, when the happy couple stopped by Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.

The winner, an engineer, intends to put most of the winnings in the bank, but he will also purchase a new car for his wife.

Due to their love of big prizes, the couple participates in both Mega Millions and Powerball. The estimated Mega Millions jackpot is set for $379 million for Friday’s drawing and the estimated Powerball jackpot is at $116 million for Saturday’s drawing.

“We are going to keep playing,” the winner said. “We hope to come back after we win the full jackpot next time.” He purchased the lucky $2 quick-pick ticket at Old World Favorites at 3854 International Drive in Silver Spring.
