NEW YORK, NY – Firefighters rescued two people from a burning home in the Bronx on Friday. One of those rescued was a young child stuck in the second floor during the fire.

FDNY firefighters were alerted to the presence of people inside the burning home by EMS Station 26 personnel on scene. Firefighters were met, by a ‘frantic civilian’ according to the NYPD who also informed firefighters of the occupants trapped inside the home.

“The FDNY EMS Station 26 members were alerted yesterday to a house fire in the Bronx behind their quarters. The EMTs Camacho, Lemus, Bourdier, Rebolledo, Rosado, Love, and Gioffre and Silvera ran around the block and observed fire coming from two-story windows,” the department said. “Their members were informed that people had been trapped in the house by a frantic civilian, and without hesitation they climbed a ladder from the rear of the house and reached the second floor, while the rest of the team accessed the house through the front door.”

Firefighters from Engine 82, Ladder 31, and Ladder 19 arrived at the house just as heavy smoke and high heat conditions forced the EMS members out of the house.

“The EMS members then provided life-saving interventions to these two critical patients. The EMS members did an outstanding job of directing the fire units and informing them that civilians were trapped.”They really helped today,” said FDNY Deputy Chief Brian Shovlin.

In addition to locating and removing a child from the second floor, Firefighters Rivera and Diamond also located and removed an adult victim.
