District Heights armed carjacker arrested

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD – Police officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department responded quickly to apprehend a suspected armed carjacker on Wednesday.

Officers arrested Messiah Jones, 18, of District Heights, after he attempted an armed carjacking minutes earlier in the night.

According to police, at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the 2700 block of Lorring Drive in District Heights after receiving a threat from a suspect who demanded the victim’s car keys.


“The victim complied after the suspect entered the victim’s car and failed to start the engine,” police reported. “The suspect fled the scene after failing to start the engine. After responding to the victim’s call for assistance, police observed the suspect nearby in the 3000 block of Donnell Drive.”

Jones was immediately arrested without incident. A loaded handgun with an extended magazine was recovered from his waistband. Jones is charged with armed carjacking and possession of a firearm.
