Police investigating incident at William Penn High School

NEW CASTLE, DE – Police are investigating an unknown incident that occurred at the William Penn High School in New Castle today. The Delaware State Police said they are currently conducting a criminal investigation at William Penn High School located at 713 E. Basin Road.

“As a result, there is an increased police presence in the area. There are no injuries and there is no active threat to the school. We ask the public to please avoid the area. Parents do not respond to the school,” the DSP said. “It is anticipated that there will be a regular dismissal of the students.”

According to school officials, the school was placed on lockdown.


“The lockdown at William Penn High School was lifted at approximately 12:50 PM at the recommendation of the School Resource Officer,” the school said in a message to parents today. “Students are resuming their normal activities. As the investigation continues and we will provide further updates as we can.”

At this time, there is an active and ongoing investigation, according to DSP. Additional information will be released once made available.

“Authorities are on the scene and we ask parents not to come to the campus while the investigation is underway. As always, we will keep you updated,” school officials said.
