NEW CASTLE, DE – Police received a report of a gunshot being fired inside William Penn High School on Tuesday. When Delaware State Troopers arrived to the school located at 713 East Basin Road, they located a handgun on school property.

The DSP will continue its investigation into the incident. Few details have been released at this time. No students were injured.

In response to the incident, the school will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

“All before and after school activities, sports and events scheduled during these two days [Wednesday and Thursday] will be postponed and rescheduled for a later date. The safety of staff and students remains our immediate priority and by allowing for this break it provides officials with the time to properly investigate and gives everyone time needed to regroup after today’s events,” the district said in a statement to staff and students.
