NYPD seeking public’s assistance finding thieves who stole $300,000 from armored car

It was reported to police that on Friday, January 6, 2023 at approximately 1300 hours, in front of a Chase Bank located at 5423 8 Avenue, a Brink's employee was making a bank money drop when two unknown individuals approached him and began to ask for directions. While the employee was distracted, another unknown individual quickly removed a bag that was left unattended on the bumper of the armored Brink's truck and fled the scene on foot heading southbound on 8 Avenue. The two other individuals fled the scene to parts unknown. The stolen bag contained $300,000 cash.

NEW YORK, NY – The New York City Police Department has released more photos of the suspects wanted for a $300,000 armored car heist in Sunset park last week. Three suspects wanted in connection with the brazen broad daylight heist have yet to be captured.

Three men coordinated the robbery of a Brinks armored car outside Chase bank on 8th Avenue in Sunset Park last Friday in broad daylight.

The robbery occurred at 1 pm when a Brinks employee was making a money drop at the bank and one of the three suspects distracted the employee by asking for directions.


“While the employee was distracted, another unknown individual quickly removed a bag that was left unattended on the bumper of the armored Brink’s truck and fled the scene on foot heading southbound on 8 Avenue,” police said.

The two other suspects fled the scene before the Brinks employee noticed the missing bag containing $300,000 in cash.

The suspect who removed the bag is described as a male with a light complexion and a slim build, last seen wearing a black winter hat, a black hooded jacket, gray pants, and black sneakers.

According to the police report, suspect 2, who distracted the Brink’s employee, is described as a male with a medium complexion and medium build, last seen wearing a black winter hat with white trim, a black winter coat with a hood, gray pants, and black sneakers.

As for suspect 3, who distracted the Brink’s employee as well, he is described as a male with a medium complexion and a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black winter hat, a black mask, a black jacket, black pants, black sneakers, and a black backpack.
