CLIFTON, NJ – A woman was injured while trying to stave off a carjacker who had just gotten in her car. According to police, at around 4:45 pm, officers were called to the Sunoco gas station on River Road.

When they arrived, they located the female victim with facial lacerations and numerous body injuries.

After talking to the victim, police determined the woman had started warming up her car, a 2014 Audi, as she prepared to leave her job.

“He then crouched down and made his way over to the victim’s vehicle, entering the driver’s seat of same. The suspect then attempted to drive off, at which time the victim jumped on the hood of her vehicle,” the Clifton Police Department said today. “The suspect, in an effort to throw her off of the vehicle, accelerated at a high rate of speed. This caused the victim to lose her grasp and eventually get thrown from the hood and onto the roadway – where she remained until help arrived.”

As the two vehicles sped away, the two vehicles nearly struck a New Jersey Transit bus.

Police provided first-aid to the woman before she was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment.

Later in the night, the Newark Police Department reported the vehicle had been recovered unoccupied within the city limits.
