NYC subway smoking investigation yields homemade spiked mace

NEW YORK, NY – New York City Transit officers in District 32 in Brooklyn recovered a machete from an individual in the New York City subway system this week.

Officers approached the man to enforce the city’s mass transit no-smoking policy. They found a machete with a blade measuring approximately 15 inches on the suspect during their encounter.

“Smoking inside the subway system is a no-no, so when Transit officers confronted a man doing just that, they also recovered this machete from him. Whatever the reason for its possession, this blade won’t endanger our ridership thanks to the District 32 team,” said Michael M. Kemper, NYPD Chief of Transit.
