Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker Won’t Run For Senate In 2024

Former Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Monday he will not run for Senate in 2024 to oust Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The two-term governor won’t challenge Baldwin in the upcoming election cycle, citing his role as president of the conservative youth organization Young America’s Foundation (YAF), the Journal Sentinel reported. Walker believes his work at YAF is paramount, and is committed to serving the organization until at least 2025.
“Plus, I don’t see myself in the Senate,” the former governor told the Journal Sentinel. “After getting so much done as Governor, I would be bored as Senator.”
Walker – who briefly ran for president in 2016 – has also ruled out a 2024 GOP run, but left the door open for the next election cycle last week, according to The New York Times.
“I’m a quarter-century younger than Joe Biden, so I’ve got plenty of time,” Walker told the NYT. “But not in ’24.”
While Baldwin has yet to announce a run for her third term, no other Wisconsin Republican has declared a Senate run against her, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Walker lost his reelection bid for a third term to Democrat Tony Evers in 2018 and became the president of YAF in 2021.
“The work I’m doing with young people right now is so critically important. When you look at the margins — the 18- to 21-year-olds — 75% or higher are voting liberal. We have to get our core values aligned with where they had been in the past. We need to make inroads or it won’t matter if I run or anyone else does,” Walker told the Journal Sentinel.
