Local fisherman discovered vehicle that crashed in creek during unreported fatal crash

LAUREL, DE – Police reportde that a local fisherman found the body of a man involved in a fatal crash after he drove his SUV into Broad Creek two weeks ago.

Jose Roaro-Alanis, 44, of Seaford was found dead by the fisherman, leading police to discover that he was the victim in a fatal crash sometime between March 11 and 12.

Another fisherman discovered a submerged truck under the Broad Creek drawbridge at approximately noon. The Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to have the vehicle removed, and they discovered that it was Roaro-Alanis’s GMC Sierra that was involved.


“The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal accident where a man drove into Broad Creek in Laurel two weeks ago. His vehicle was found in the water and recovered on Friday,” the DSP said.

After finding the vehicle, police estimate that his 2015 blue GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling southbound on North Central Avenue, approaching the drawbridge that spans over Broad Creek.

“For unknown reasons, the pickup exited the east side of the roadway and continued southbound until it entered Broad Creek and became fully submerged. The incident went unreported at the time,” DSP aid.

The man’s body was turned over to the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
