Utica man threatened girlfriend with a handgun during domestic dispute

UTICA, NY – On Wednesday, Utica Police were dispatched to an address on the 1100 block of St. Vincent St regarding a domestic incident involving a handgun. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who stated that she and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Naim Mendoza of Utica, had engaged in a heated argument. During the dispute, Mendoza allegedly threatened her with a handgun, causing her to fear for her safety.

Officers took Mendoza into custody and began searching the residence.

They discovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun that had been discarded in a rear hallway. The weapon was secured, and Mendoza was transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.


At the conclusion of the incident, Mendoza faced several charges, including criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a firearm, and menacing in the second degree. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
