Baltimore, MD – A local locksmith in Baltimore had his day turned around when he discovered that he had won $50,000 playing Pick 5 while on his way to work. The 64-year-old had placed a $1 straight bet on the numbers 99000, which he had randomly selected a few years ago and played twice daily.

The lucky player checked the April 3 Pick 5 winning midday drawing numbers on his phone while en route to work and was shocked to find out he had won. “I was trying to remain calm. I called my wife to tell her I had won,” he said.

When asked about his winning strategy, the locksmith advised players to be consistent and play daily.

“You have to play it every day. You have to be consistent. If you don’t play it, then it will hit without you winning,” he told Lottery officials.

The winner has yet to decide how he will spend his winnings but said that the money will probably go towards helping family members and paying bills.

The winning ticket was purchased at Alameda Food Mart Exxon at 5656 The Alameda in Baltimore. The store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

The Pick 5 is a popular Maryland Lottery game that offers players a chance to win up to $50,000 by selecting five numbers between 0 and 9. Drawings are held twice a day, every day of the week, with a chance to win up to $250,000 for the evening drawing.
