GAITHERSBURG, MD – A Frederick County resident is celebrating after winning the top prize of $50,000 on a $50,000 Cash scratch-off ticket. The lucky winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Brighton Beer & Wine on 225 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg.

The winner, who works in construction, said he is a casual scratch-off player and was shocked when he realized he had won the top prize.

“I didn’t believe it. I still didn’t believe it as I walked out of the store,” he said. The winner didn’t tell anyone in the store about his good fortune and waited until he got home to share the news with his wife.

The $50,000 prize will go towards bills, including college tuition for their three children.

“We have three kids in college so it won’t last long,” he said.

Despite the big win, the winner said he plans to continue playing scratch-off games.

Brighton Beer & Wine will receive a $500 bonus from the lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket. This Gaithersburg store is one of many locations where players can purchase the $20 scratch-off game, which began on December 29, 2022.

The winner is the 42nd person to win the top prize on this particular game, but there are still 118 unclaimed $50,000 prizes available, as well as more than 855,000 prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
