Two teens charged for murder at Tuskegee Sweet 16 party

TUSKEGEE, AL – Two teenagers from Tuskegee, Alabama, have been charged with murder in connection with a shooting at a “Sweet 16” birthday party that left four dead and 32 injured.

Ty Reik McCullough, 17, and Travis McCullough, 16, were taken into custody and charged with four counts of reckless murder, according to Sergeant Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The shooting occurred at the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio in Dadeville, and among the deceased was a high school football player attending his sister’s party.

According to Reuters, the incident comes amid a wave of gun violence in the United States, with at least 165 mass shootings recorded so far in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
