NEW YORK CITY, NY – A troubling incident at a Rikers Island facility has led to charges against a New York City Department of Correction Officer. Carlos Ozorio, the accused officer, is facing charges of Forcible Touching, third-degree Sexual Abuse, and Harassment for allegedly groping a fellow officer while on duty.
The charges were announced recently by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and New York City Department of Investigation Commissioner Jocelyn E. Strauber. Both officials emphasized the department’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment, stating that workplace sexual abuse would not be tolerated.
The victim, whose identity has been withheld to protect their privacy, reported the incident to their supervisors, prompting an internal investigation.
The findings of this investigation led to the formal charges against Ozorio, who will face the consequences of his actions in court on June 7, 2023.
