CUMBERLAND, MD – A quick-thinking victim and modern technology helped Cumberland Police officers apprehend a suspect in a cell phone theft. Yesterday, at around 6:45 pm, officers responded to a theft report at a business on the 200 block of Greene Street. The victim reported their cell phone stolen and immediately activated the device’s mobile tracking feature to aid in its recovery.

With the assistance of the tracking information, officers were able to quickly locate the stolen phone in a nearby vehicle. Upon further investigation, they identified the vehicle’s owner, Jack Pifer, as the primary suspect. Pifer was subsequently arrested and issued a Criminal Citation for theft. The stolen cell phone was returned to the grateful owner.

Pifer awaits trial at District Court, where he will face the consequences of his actions.

The Cumberland Police Department commends the victim for their proactive response to the theft and reminds the community of the importance of using available security features on their personal devices.
