Elderly scam targeting New Jersey seniors results in arrest of local man

GLOUCESTER TOWNSNSHIP, NJ – On Monday, Gloucester Township Police arrested Akul Tewary, 31, following an investigation into an elderly scam where a victim was defrauded of approximately $37,000.

The scam involved Tewary portraying himself as an employee of Microsoft Security, a Security Specialist from PNC Bank, the FBI, and the U.S. Treasury Department, convincing the victim to pay in Bitcoin and Walmart Gift Cards, as well as a cash delivery.

When the victim realized the scam, police were contacted and set up a sting operation. Tewary was arrested when he arrived to collect the cash delivery. He has been charged with one count of Impersonation; Theft of Identity (3rd Degree), and one count of Theft (3rd Degree).
