Howard Beach motel shooting suspect gets 12 years in prison

QUEENS, NY – The shooter in a 2021 shooting at a Howard Beach motel is heading to prison.

Rawle Washington has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for injuring a man in a September 2021 shooting at Surfside Motel in Howard Beach. Washington, 28, was found guilty by a jury in March of attempted assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon.

He was sentenced to prison this week.

The investigation, led by the Queens District Attorney’s office, used DNA evidence to identify Washington after he fled the scene.

The victim, 29-year-old Kalif White, was left with gunshot wounds to his buttocks and leg. Assistant District Attorney Nicole Rella prosecuted the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Michael Whitney.
