TRENTON, NJ  – Jay Shortway is the devoted owner of Shortway’s Barn restaurant and bar, which opened in 1933. Shortway’s is a New Jersey Lottery retailer.

Jay never takes a break from work, even on special occasions like Easter Sunday. Although the establishment was closed that day, Jay spent some time there to ensure everything was in perfect order for Monday’s reopening. While at the restaurant, he bought a CASH4LIFE lottery ticket for himself, which he put in his wallet. An NJ Lottery Security Representative visited the restaurant the following day and informed Jay that a CASH4LIFE second prize jackpot had been sold during the Sunday drawing, winning $1,000 A Week for Life.

Jay knew he was the only one who had purchased a ticket on Sunday, but it took a while for him to realize he was the lucky winner. When Jay’s aunt heard about the win, she excitedly exclaimed to everyone present that she was so happy for him she could cry. The other customers in the restaurant also joined in congratulating Jay on his massive win.

A year before his win, Jay noted that the Family Mini-Mart, an NJ Lottery retailer located just across the street from Shortway’s Barn, had sold a winning CASH4LIFE jackpot, earning Goffle Road in Hawthorne, NJ moniker “Lucky Lottery Street.”
