Police investigating after woman, an innocent bystander caught in gunfire

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – A stray bullet struck a woman during a shooting in Kannapolis on Wednesday evening.

Kannapolis Police received a 911 call at around 6:30 p.m. regarding a possible gunshot victim near the 200 block of Johndy Avenue. The 911 caller reported that the parties involved in the shooting appeared to be driving black and white Dodge Chargers.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who had been shot in the arm. Cabarrus EMS transported the injured woman to the Atrium Health Medical Center in Concord for treatment.


The investigation is ongoing, but early reports indicate that the victim was not involved in the altercation and was just an innocent bystander.

Witnesses reported the shooter was in the white Dodge Charger.
