Freehold man gets 35 years for running over 56-year-old in race-motivated killing

FREEHOLD, NJ – Jamil Hubbard, 30, of Sayreville, has been recently sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 35 years for the race-motivated killing of Jerry Wolkowitz, 56, in a Freehold Township parking lot in 2018.

The attack began with Hubbard assaulting Wolkowitz from behind before stealing his wallet, car keys, and running him over with his own vehicle.

Wolkowitz, a longtime member of the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad and a freelance photographer, remained hospitalized in a coma until he died due to his injuries on October 18, 2018.


Hubbard was convicted of first-degree murder, first-degree bias intimidation, second-degree eluding, third-degree theft from the person, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree motor vehicle theft.
