Paterson man gets 6 years in prison for violent assault of 62-year-old

PATERSON, NJ – Walter A. Williams, a 30-year-old man from Paterson, New Jersey, has been recently sentenced to 6 years in prison after being found guilty of aggravated assault and theft from the person. The Honorable Joseph A. Portelli, J.S.C., handed down the sentence on Wednesday.

Williams will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act.

The trial revealed that on November 15, 2020, at around 6:00 pm, Williams violently attacked 62-year-old Luis Rey near 442 Broadway in Paterson.

The assault resulted in a broken collarbone, several broken ribs, and a head laceration for Mr. Rey. In addition to the physical assault, Williams stole property that Mr. Rey had in his possession at the time of the incident.
