67-year-old man sleeping on NYC subway train was woken by stranger, beaten with stick

NEW YORK, NY – A senior citizen was attacked while sleeping on a New York City subway train on Sunday.

According to the NYPD, the attack took place at around 9:50 pm, leaving a 67-year-old man injured and shaken.

The incident occurred on a southbound “A” train, approaching the 80th Street subway station. Police investigating the incident said the victim was asleep in a subway car when he was suddenly awoken by an unknown individual wielding a stick.


“Without any warning or provocation, the assailant struck the elderly man in the face with the stick. The victim suffered lacerations to his face and swelling around his eye,” the NYPD said in a statement today.

He was quickly transported to Jamaica Hospital by emergency medical services.

The attacker fled into the 80th Street subway station, and police are currently on the hunt for the individual.
