Cambridge Man Charged with Attempted Murder and Child Abuse

CAMBRIDGE, MD – A Cambridge man is facing serious charges after being accused of lying to police and severely injuring his one year old child.

On April 28th, 2023, Marcus Semione Peak, a 26-year-old man from Cambridge, was arrested at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he was found to have an active District Court Arrest Warrant through the Cambridge Police Department. Peak was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Assault 1st Degree, Child Abuse 1st Degree Severe Physical Injury, Child Abuse 2nd Degree Custodian, Assault 2nd Degree, Neglect of Minor, and Reckless Endangerment.

These charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 21st, 2023, when Cambridge Police Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Rosemont Ave to assist Dorchester County EMS with a 1-month-old child who was not breathing and unconscious. The child was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester and then to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where they were listed in critical condition.

Further investigation by CPD Detectives revealed that Peak, the father of the child, had lied about the events leading up to the child’s injuries. Peak initially claimed that the child had been sleeping in a bassinet and had been found unresponsive, but he later admitted that he had been changing the child on an elevated position when the child fell to the floor and struck their head. Peak then picked the child up and shook them to try to wake them up.

Medical testing showed that the child had suffered multiple skull fractures and bleeding on both sides of the brain, which had evolved into a stroke ischemic injury consistent with progressive brain damage. Peak was transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance before a Court Commissioner. He was then turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on No Bond.
