Chicago police are investigating multiple assaults and robberies in the Austin area

CHICAGO, IL – Armed bandits are targeting residents in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood and police are advising future victims not to resist.

Residents in Chicago’s 15th District, Austin, have been put on high alert after a series of armed robberies.

In each of the incidents, the perpetrators approached their victims on foot and brandished a gun. They demanded the victim’s property, hit them with the weapon, and fled with their belongings. The robberies took place on April 9, 10, and 18, as well as April 29 and 30, in the 5100 block of West Washington and the 200 and 5100 blocks of West Madison and North Leclaire.


The offenders are described as black males, between 5’07” and 6’00” and 16-25 years of age, weighing between 120-150 lbs, and wearing black clothing.

There have also been instances of black females involved, standing at 4’09”-4’11” and weighing 120-150 lbs, and between the ages of 18-20. Authorities have urged residents to be cautious, avoid resisting during a robbery, and to never pursue a fleeing attacker.

Witnesses are urged to request contact information and report any unique physical characteristics of the offenders. In case of an emergency, residents should immediately dial 9-1-1 and remain on the scene. Anyone with information is urged to contact Area Four Detectives at 312-746-8253.
