ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City police department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to a shooting that occurred in March. Jawaun Yeoman, 25, of Somers Point, was taken into custody on May 4, 2023, after being spotted by Officer Christopher Campbell in the 4000 block of Ventnor Avenue.

Campbell recognized Yeoman from a flyer distributed by detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit, leading to his arrest. Officer Campbell and Officer Thomas Gilardi conducted a motor vehicle stop, and Yeoman was ordered to exit the vehicle before being taken into custody without incident.

During the arrest, officers discovered a loaded handgun in Yeoman’s waistband. Further investigation revealed that the weapon was a “ghost gun” lacking a serial number, which was fitted with a high-capacity magazine. The criminal charges against Yeoman relate to a shooting that took place on March 25, 2023, when officers responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Sovereign and Sunset Avenues.

Upon arrival, they discovered evidence of gunfire but no victim. However, a 33-year-old male victim later entered AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.

Yeoman faces charges including aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon (2 counts), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, conspiracy, certain person not to possess weapons, possession of a “ghost gun,” possession of a defaced firearm, and possession of a large capacity magazine.

Yeoman is currently remanded at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
