Cranford police, Downtown Cranford partner to host sensory friendly movie night

CRANFORD, NJ – The Cranford Police Department and the Cranford Fire Department partnered with Downtown Cranford Director Caren Demyen for the second time to host a Sensory Friendly Movie event at the Cranford Theaters. The event was made possible thanks to the generous donations of Brighton Air Corp and the Cranford Theater.

Sensory Friendly Movie showings are designed to accommodate families with children who have sensory integration disorder, autism, or other special needs. These movies feature special accommodations that enable families to enjoy the movie without the negative stimuli or restrictions that are present during traditional movie screenings.

For the duration of the movie, the Cranford Movie Theater provided dim lighting throughout the theater to take the edge off of changing colors and movie animation lights. The theater also reduced the movie volume slightly while encouraging attending community members to bring headphones and other sensory aids from home.

The event was a great success, and the Cranford Police Department and Fire Department would like to thank everyone who made it possible.
