Woman carjacked on her way to the gym in Newark

NEWARK, DE _ Detectives with the Delaware State Police are currently investigating a carjacking that occurred in the parking lot of a gym in Newark on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place around 2:50 p.m. on Sunday at the Edge Fitness located at 2800 Fashion Center Boulevard.

According to reports, a 31-year-old female victim had parked her Dodge Durango in the lot and was exiting her vehicle with her keys in hand when an unknown suspect approached her and attempted to grab the keys.

The victim resisted, leading to a physical struggle, but the suspect ultimately gained control of the keys and shoved the victim to the ground.


A second suspect then entered the front passenger seat of the Durango, and both suspects fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

The victim sustained minor injuries to her upper and lower extremities but refused medical attention at the scene. The suspects were described as two black males, approximately 5’5” tall, wearing all dark clothing. At present, no surveillance images of the suspects are available.

The Troop 2 Robbery Unit is leading the investigation into the incident.
