QUEENS, NY – A 17-year-old male has been recently charged with assault as a hate crime for an attack in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

The defendant, whose name is being withheld due to his age, and several other individuals allegedly targeted a 65-year-old Jewish man in the park, shouting antisemitic slurs before physically assaulting him.

They took his money, credit cards, phone, and other personal items in the unprovoked, antisemitic attack. The accused has been arraigned on a 14-count complaint, including assault, robbery, grand larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property.

The case is being prosecuted by the Queens District Attorney’s Office Hate Crimes Bureau.
