MINEOLA, N.Y. – Gerson Hernandez, a 21-year-old from Uniondale, has been recently indicted on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree gang assault for his alleged role in two murders that took place in Uniondale and Hempstead in 2022. Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced the indictment on Thursday.

According to the indictment, Hernandez, acting with two unapprehended co-defendants, approached victim Walter Ochoa in a park in Uniondale on July 19, 2022. The victim was shot in the chest and slashed in the neck, resulting in his death.

In a separate incident on September 14, 2022, Hernandez and a co-defendant were involved in a dispute outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Hempstead. A friend of Hernandez, who remains unapprehended, allegedly shot a victim multiple times, who was then struck with a large knife.

Hernandez was arrested in Maryland on March 13, 2023, and was arraigned before Judge Terence Murphy. He will appear again in court on June 6, 2023.
