NEWARK, NJ – Police in Newark are asking the public for help identifying a suspect involved in the theft of a motorcycle. The incident occurred on May 7, as the motorcycle was about to be towed.

The stolen vehicle is described as a gray Honda CB 1-000R motorcycle. It was initially found parked without license plates in the 60 block of Elm Street.

The motorcycle’s vehicle identification number did not indicate an owner. As a result, officers at the scene called for a tow truck, which arrived at approximately 6:46 p.m.

As the patrol car was moved to allow the tow truck access to the street, the suspect seized the opportunity. He mounted the motorcycle and fled in the opposite direction, heading northbound on Elm Road.

The Newark PD is asking anyone who may have information about the identity or whereabouts of the suspect to come forward. The Newark Police Division has established a 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477) for individuals to provide anonymous tips.
