HOLLYWOOD, FL – At least nine individuals, including minors, were injured on Memorial Day when gunfire erupted near the beach boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida, according to reports from both Fox News and the Associated Press.

The incident unfolded shortly before 6:45 p.m. local time when law enforcement received a distress call reporting multiple people shot near Johnson St. Police officers swiftly arrived at the scene and provided immediate assistance to the victims. The injured individuals were then swiftly transported to Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for further medical treatment.

Authorities have determined that the shooting incident stemmed from a confrontation between two groups. While one person of interest has been apprehended, another suspect remains at large. A spokesperson from the police department disclosed that the outstanding suspect is believed to be a Black male with dreadlocks, wearing a black short sleeve shirt, and camo shorts.

Videos captured by witnesses and shared online depict a chaotic scene as a large crowd scattered along the beach boardwalk in the aftermath of the gunfire.

Law enforcement has announced that there will be an increased police presence in the area as the investigation into the incident continues. Additionally, officials are working to establish a designated space where family members can reunite.

Hollywood Beach, located approximately 11 miles south of Fort Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami, is a popular destination for beachgoers, particularly during the Memorial Day holiday. The shooting has cast a shadow over the otherwise anticipated influx of visitors to the area.

As more details emerge, authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. The motive behind the altercation and the shooting remains under investigation.
