Bass River State Forest, NJ – The New Jersey Forest Fire Service has been working to contain a wildfire that has been blazing through the area of Allen Road in Bass River State Forest. Officials reported that substantial progress has been made in bringing the fire under control.

The wildfire, which has already engulfed an extensive area, has spread over 5,000 acres. However, the authorities have managed to achieve a significant milestone by containing 50% of the blaze.

To bolster their containment efforts, a backfiring operation has been actively implemented today.

In response to the ongoing emergency, several road closures have been implemented to ensure public safety. Allen Road, Oswego Road, Stage Road between North Maple Avenue and Rt. 679, as well as Rt. 679 between Rt. 563 and Leaktown Road, are temporarily closed. Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution and follow detour instructions.

While the wildfire poses a threat to the surrounding environment and the Timberline Campground, no residential structures have been reported as being in immediate danger.

This provides some relief to residents in the area, as efforts can be focused on continuing to contain the fire.

In addition to road closures, certain trails have also been temporarily shut down due to the wildfire. The Batona Trail, located within Bass River State Forest, has been closed to ensure the safety of hikers and prevent the fire from spreading further.
