Beechboro, Australia – A brazen attempt at shoplifting took an unexpected turn when a vigilant employee at The Bottle-O Beechboro, an Australian liquor store, locked a shoplifter inside the premises, as captured on surveillance footage.

In the video, the individual can be seen approaching the cash register with a 10-pack of Wild Turkey 101. However, in a swift change of strategy, the man abruptly veers towards the exit, seemingly intent on absconding with the whiskey without paying.

To his surprise, the door remains firmly shut.

Unbeknownst to the thief, the quick-thinking cashier had pressed a button on a remote, triggering a mechanism that locked the exit, as depicted in the surveillance footage.

Frustrated and desperate, the failed shoplifter paces back and forth, attempting to trigger the motion sensor that might unlock the door. After a futile attempt to slide it open manually, he ultimately concedes defeat a few seconds later, according to the video evidence.

The store employee, identified as Kellie Gordon, reportedly advised the individual to either relinquish the stolen alcohol or await the arrival of law enforcement, as relayed by 10 News First – Perth.

With a defeated demeanor, the would-be thief reluctantly retraces his steps, returning to the cash register and placing the box of stolen merchandise onto the counter.

The swift actions of the vigilant staffer effectively thwarted the theft, ensuring the preservation of the store’s inventory and upholding the principles of law and order.

Authorities have been notified of the incident, and the investigation into the failed heist is underway.
