PYLESVILLE, MD – A Pennsylvania man is now in custody in connection with a double murder that took place in Pylesville on Saturday evening.
At approximately 8:49 p.m. on July 1, 2023, deputies from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunshots in the 1700 block of Scott Road. Upon arrival, they discovered two adult males with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Sadly, both victims, identified as Timothy Wayne Witherite, 62, and David Joseph Oktavec, 70, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The family dog also lost its life in the incident.
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, supported by the Forensic Services Unit, assumed control of the investigation.
The detectives made progress, leading to the identification and apprehension of a suspect. Steven M. Nolan, 53, from Pennsylvania, was taken into custody without incident by the Pennsylvania State Police approximately two hours after the shooting. While the motive is still under investigation, initial information suggests that Nolan shot Witherite inside the residence and Oktavec outside before fleeing.
Authorities have obtained charges against Nolan in Maryland, and he is currently held in a Pennsylvania jail pending extradition back to Maryland.
The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
