QUEENS, NY – On Thursday, Reeaz Khan, a 24-year-old Richmond Hill resident, was sentenced for his attack on a 92-year-old woman near her home in 2020. District Attorney Melinda Katz stated that Khan was found guilty of murder in the second degree and attempted rape in the first degree, with charges supported by surveillance footage and an autopsy.

In the early hours of January 6, 2020, Khan was captured on camera assaulting Maria Fuertes on 127th Avenue. Fuertes was later found by a passerby and taken to a local hospital, where she succumbed to injuries. An autopsy revealed that blunt force trauma and hypothermia were the cause of death. Khan’s sentence includes 22 years to life for the murder charge and eight years for the attempted rape charge, to run concurrently.
