Suspect in deadly drag race that killed hospital worker going to prison

QUEENS, NY – Alamin Ahmed, a 25-year-old resident of Central Avenue, Albany, has been sentenced on Thursday to seven years in prison.

Ahmed was convicted in connection to a deadly drag-racing accident in Kew Gardens Hills in November 2020 that claimed the life of a hospital worker. Ahmed pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the second degree and assault in the second degree in May.

Surveillance footage from November 20, 2020, shows Ahmed and co-defendant Mir Fahmid racing down Union Turnpike post a party. Ahmed, with a blood alcohol level of .094 percent, and Fahmid ran two solid red lights resulting in a collision with Daniel Crawford’s car, leading to his death.


While Ahmed was arrested at the scene, Fahmid fled and was later arrested. Fahmid, also 25, residing at 168th Place, Jamaica, awaits his sentencing scheduled for August 22. Fahmid pleaded guilty to the same charges as Ahmed.
