Three Charged for 2022 Deadly Bayonne Shooting

BAYONNE, NJ – Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit recently announced the charges against three individuals in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Damoi Davauni Campbell of New York on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

Mitchell Watson, 22, Hafis Jackson, 20, both from Salem, and Daynajah Payne, 24, from Irvington, are facing charges that include murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and weapon possession violations.

Watson was arrested in Salem, New Jersey, on Thursday, June 29, while Payne was apprehended on Wednesday, June 28, in Long Valley, New Jersey. Both are being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending court appearances. Jackson is currently in custody at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington, Delaware, on unrelated charges.


On the day of the incident, the Bayonne Police Department responded to reports of shots fired near 21st Street and Avenue A. Campbell was found inside a vehicle on West 21st Street and pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was confirmed to be gunshot wounds to the back.
