Community mourns fallen Vermont police officer

RUTLAND CITY, VT – The Rutland City Police Department is mourning the tragic loss of Officer Jessica Ebbighausen, a 19-year-old part-time police officer who had recently begun her career in law enforcement. Officer Ebbighausen had been serving as a level-2 officer since May 23 and had plans to transition into a full-time role next month, commencing her training at the Police Academy.

Sadly, on Friday, July 7, Officer Jessica Ebbighausen lost her life in the line of duty. A suspect led Rutland police on a brief high-speed pursuit, which concluded when the individual intentionally crashed into two police vehicles, resulting in the untimely death of Officer Ebbighausen.
