Fatal Fire in Jersey City Under Investigation

JERSEY CITY, NJ – On Monday, a deadly blaze broke out at 269 Stegman Street, prompting a response from the Jersey City Fire Department and Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force. Firefighters battling the flames discovered an unresponsive man, tentatively identified as Christopher Williams, 54, of Jersey City. Despite emergency transportation to Jersey City Medical Center, Williams was declared dead shortly after 7:30 am.

Additionally, a 41-year-old woman was injured while escaping the fire through a window. Her injuries were non-life-threatening, and she has since been discharged from the hospital.

Initial findings from the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force indicate the fire started on the front enclosed porch of the residence, although the cause remains undetermined at this time.
