Seaside Heights Bay Beach Closed Due to High Fecal Count

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has forced the closure of a Barnegat Bay beach in Seaside Heights. Officials reported colonies of enterococcus bacteria at levels of 430 CFU/100 ml in recent testing.

This week, that count was lowered to 140 CFU/100 ml this week.

The water quality test only reports water on the bay side of the borough. Ocean water tested normal on Seaside Heights Beach.

At this time, the Seaside Heights beach is the only fecal bacteria closure along the entire length of the Jersey Shore. The affected beach is located at the intersection of Hancock and Bay Boulevard.
