Work on Rebuilding Historic Seaside Heights Carousel Continues

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ – Volunteers from the Seaside Heights Historical Society are working overtime to reassemble the refurbished 1910 Dentzel-Looff merry-go-round.

The carousel was refurbished by Ohio-based Carousels & Carvings, a company that builds and repairs carousels. The pieces of the carousel have been returning to Seaside Heights, where volunteers continue to reassemble the ride at its new home on the northern end of the boardwalk.

The borough is anticipating the grand opening this year.

SHHS member Skip Tanis is one of those volunteers working to rebuild the carousel.

“Skip helped disassemble the Moreland Carousel in 2019 and has helped with repairing legs and hooves in the meantime,” the SHHS said in a recent social media post. “He’s been back assisting with reassembly.”

In Just 11 days, workers transformed the new empty carousel house into a recognizable ride, placing the first horse on the ride this week.

The job is expected to take up to three weeks and will require a state safety inspection before it can be reopened.

The building will also serve as a Seaside Height historical museum. You can get daily updates from the SHHS on their Facebook page.
