Lakewood Fire Department Hosting BBQ During Latest Recruitment Drive

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The Lakewood Fire Department is calling on all community members to answer the call of duty and join their ranks as volunteer firefighters. To encourage recruitment and foster a sense of camaraderie, Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr and the Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners have announced a thrilling Volunteer Recruitment Open House Campaign, set to take place on Sunday, July 30, 2023, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the esteemed Firehouse located at 1350 Lanes Mill Road.

The Open House aims to showcase the opportunities available for those willing to serve their community and make a difference in times of crisis. This initiative warmly invites everyone, regardless of prior experience, to explore the critical roles and responsibilities of a firefighter within the Lakewood Fire Department.

The action-packed event promises to be both informative and exciting. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and interact with seasoned firefighters and emergency personnel, gaining valuable insights into their heroic work. In addition to the insightful activities and demonstrations, aspiring volunteer firefighters will also learn about the comprehensive training programs offered by the department. Probationary firefighters will be provided with essential fire academy training, as well as ongoing instruction to ensure they are well-equipped for any situation they may encounter. Furthermore, volunteers will receive all necessary equipment, uniforms, and even a pager at absolutely no personal expense.

As an added bonus to the Open House event, attendees will be treated to a delectable kosher BBQ, free of charge. It’s an excellent opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy delicious food, and share in the spirit of unity that defines the Lakewood Fire Department.
