A resident of Prince George’s County had a reason to celebrate after winning the top prize in the Bonus Match 5 drawing held on July 17. The Fort Washington man, an 82-year-old retired police officer, arrived at the Lottery headquarters in Baltimore with a beaming smile and his wife by his side to claim his $50,000 prize.

As devoted Lottery players, the couple regularly participates in various games such as Multi-Match, Bonus Match 5, Mega Millions, and scratch-offs. For the retiree, playing the numbers has become a source of entertainment and excitement in their lives.

The fortunate winner purchased his winning ticket at Allentown Valero in Fort Washington on the day of the drawing. It was only when he checked the winning numbers at a Lottery retailer that he realized his ticket matched the winning numbers. The clerks confirmed his win, but the size of his prize was yet to be revealed.

Filled with disbelief, the retiree scanned the ticket himself and was overjoyed to see that he had won the game’s top prize. “I was truly in disbelief because this doesn’t happen every day,” he said with a hint of amazement in his voice.

When asked about his plans for the prize money, the winner shared that he intends to treat his wife to a nice steak dinner to celebrate their luck. Additionally, he wants to donate a portion of his winnings to charity and assist friends and family members.

The joy of the winner’s success extends to the retailer as well. Allentown Valero, located at 7713 Allentown Road in Prince George’s County, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket. This year alone, the Lottery has sold a total of 20 $50,000 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 tickets, adding to the excitement of players and retailers alike.
