Lead Prosecutor In Hunter Biden Case May Testify Before Congress

The Justice Department (DOJ) told Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan Monday that the lead prosecutor in the case against Hunter Biden is willing to testify publicly before Congress in the fall, according to The Associated Press.

The DOJ sent Jordan a two-page letter informing him that U.S. Attorney David Weiss of Delaware would be available to come before the House Judiciary Committee during a public hearing, the AP reported. House Republicans previously requested interviews with over a dozen officials involved in the Hunter Biden case, including Weiss, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Daniel Werfel.

“The Department believes it is strongly in the public interest for the American people and for Congress to hear directly from U.S. Attorney Weiss on these assertions and questions about his authority at a public hearing,” Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte told Jordan, according to the AP.

Two IRS whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, said in testimony before the House Oversight Committee last week that the DOJ retaliated against them after they voiced concerns about the DOJ’s handling of the investigation into Hunter Biden. Shapley earlier alleged the investigation had been “slow-walked.”

One of Shapeley’s emails from October 2022 recently released by his attorneys also revealed Weiss did not have the ultimate authority in Hunter Biden’s case, though Weiss and Garland have both mode statements to the contrary.

“Weiss stated that he is not the deciding person on whether charges are filed,” Shapley wrote at the time to IRS Criminal Investigation division chief Michael Batdorf and Washington, DC, field office Special Agent in Charge Darrell Waldon.

Hunter Bided plead guilty in June to two tax misdemeanors and entered a probation agreement for one felony gun charge. Weiss was appointed as U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware by then-President Donald Trump in 2018.
